Ohio Senate Bill 255

November 30, 2018

The Ohio House Federalism & Interstate Relations Committee is considering Senate Bill 255. This legislation, which passed the Ohio Senate last spring, threatens the elimination of Ohio's licensing boards if they are not renewed by the Ohio General Assembly. This includes the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers & Surveyors. In fact, Senate Bill 255 lumps together all professional and occupational boards into "one size fits all" language -- regardless of each board's impact on the public's health, safety and welfare. Furthermore, proponents of Senate Bill 255 assume that many currently-licensed occupations would be better judged by the public through open market competition.

The Ohio and Regional GAC committees are following this issue in addition to numerous other ASHRAE partners. If you would like to assist please contact your chapter GAC chair or Jim Arnold (r05ggac@ashrae.net).
